Royal Life Saving Alert
As the weather begins to cool down a nice warm bath is on all our minds.
Many parents and carers are convinced of the positive attributes a warm bath offers when it comes to settling babies or young children in preparation for sleep. Particularly,when it ’s cold outside a warm bath provides the perfect end to any day.
But please,always Keep Watch and never leave your child alone in the bath. Every year Royal Life Saving issues a “Zero Drowning Challenge ” with the launch of the National Drowning
Report, yet last year tragically 6 young children drowned in bathtubs.
Take everything you or your children need at bathtime into the bathroom. Ignore that ringing
phone or that knock at the door and make sure nothing is left cooking that may need your
attention. Bathtime can be and should be enjoyable for everyone. Playing in the bath is
fun and the children become familiar with water through play. But remember to Keep Watch.
Finally I hope you all have seen the new Keep Watch Community Service Announcement
focusing on Pool Safety. This Autumn and Winter watch out for the Bathtime Safety version.
So I ask again that you please watch the message, hear the message and action the message
to prevent your child from drowning.

Sadly,on average one child under the age of five drowns every week in australia. An often unknown fact is that for every child who drowns, there are at least three children
admitted to hospital as victims of near drowning as a result of an immersion incident. Of this figure up to 20% will be affected by some degree of damage to the brain. The 2007
national drowning report,sadly, shows 35 children under the age of 5 drowned in australia last year.
The Royal Life Saving Keep Watch campaign aims to educate parents and carers of young children on how to keep their children safe around water.
Royal Life Saving raises funds to support this campaign to help arrest the toddler drowning rate in australia.
Royal Life Saving has a regular giving program which gives supporters the chance to contribute to our extremely valuable work on a regular basis. The regular giving program enables supporters to donate a regular amount via direct debit or their credit card each month and this donation is a tax deduction.
This convenient way of giving saves you time and it saves Royal Life Saving money by reducing our administration costs and allows us to plan into the future.
